If
you're reading this....,
then you're
likely an artist already. Maybe not yet with paint on canvas, but for so
many people, the little bits of artistic creativity exercised at home or at work
are just scratching the surface of their real potential. With the right
coaching, that creative energy can explode onto the canvas with amazing results.
That's why I've created this weekend workshop.
Whether you've painted before or not, this weekend will take you from
beginning with the basics to the completion of a beautiful work of art.
You will select a guide from a collection of well-known
expressionistic paintings and photographs when we meet on Friday evening. Using
simple and basic drawing techniques you will sketch onto a 24" x 30"
canvas Friday night and be ready to paint in the morning.
Saturday you will learn color mixing, blending and how to apply paint. As you begin your work, the emphasis will be on the creative process, staying present throughout the day (no cell phone calls) and allowing your skills and personality to transform the guide you chose into a work that is all your own. Working through the "block-in-blues, a color crisis, and the feeling that your painting will never look right are normal obstacles, and we will overcome them all.
Working side-by-side with students of all levels and
seeing their paintings blossom along with yours is such a creative high. The
techniques for creating depth, texture and tone are explained and demonstrated
on your painting right when they are needed in order to pull it all together.
Everyone finishes! By Sunday your painting is ready to hang on the wall. A work of art that is unique because of your personal creative energy. Students are so pleased with their progress that many begin to paint regularly at home using the same system and techniques. When students are ready, they will have the option to work on a larger canvas at the next Paint with Lu workshop. Many times, the creative process evolves from a hobby to an incredible skill and I am so excited when one of my students calls me with the news that they sold one of their works.
Of course, it all starts with the first effort and whether you want to paint for a lifetime, or make just one for a gift, this weekend was created for you.
